Originality

Is this research original, new, unique or different in some way from what has gone before? Does it contribute to knowledge in some way?

Also Called: Contribution, Uniqueness, Newness with respect to Theory, Practice, The Literature, Knowledge, The Field

There can be originality in any Research Writing section. The Introduction may state a new problem or issue, the Theory Review may form a new theory model raising new questions, or the Discussion section may suggest new implications. See also the following elements:

  1. Topic Originality: Is the chosen topic area to some degree unexplored territory?

  2. Theory Contribution: Is there a contribution to current theoretical understanding?

  3. New Perspective: Is a new perspective involved?

  4. Precedence: Does the review recognize and build upon previous specific works?

  5. New Method Theory: Is any new technique or methodology described, if only briefly?

  6. Contribution: Does this research add value apart from what others have done?
