References

Do the references reflect the quality, breadth and recency of the publication?

Some reviewers judge the quality of a publication from the quality of the references, looking for things like:

  1. Are journal article page numbers given?
  2. Are author names spelled correctly? Are major authors in the field referenced?
  3. Are the references up to date?
  4. Are there journal references, not just books, web sites or magazines?

One need not be too “trendy”, as research is not a fashion show, but some recent references show you are up to date.
