Missing Values
How were missing value non-responses recorded?
Missing values occur when a data gathering attempt fails. Attempts to gather data can give three outcomes:
- A successful result
- A nil response (NR)
- A not applicable response (NA)
For example asking someone "Why did you buy your mobile phone?" may give some reason (a valid response), the subject may walk away as they prefer not to answer (a nil response or NR), or they may say "I don't have a mobile phone" (a not applicable response or NA). Both NR and NA are missing values. State the number of missing values, as often this implies things, and also how they were dealt with.
