Figures

Do any figures add value to the text for the space they take up, and have a mention in the text like “See Figure 1”?

In presenting ideas a picture is worth a thousand words, so it is a good ideas to present important ideas as pictures. However figures take up a lot of space, so having too many of them spoils the effect and can be distracting. So one must discriminate whether the figure adds value, e.g. in a paper on cell phone use a picture of a cell phone adds little value, but in a paper on modern robotic systems pictures would add value. Also be aware that how a picture looks onscreen is not necessarily how it will appear when printed, as print often converts to a different graphics format. ALWAYS check your figures in any publishing proofs, and keep the graphic source in case you need to convert to another format or change a label later.
